New British Consul in Alicante, Spain Announced
December 8, 2006
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London and the British embassy in Madrid have announced that Juliet Maric has been named as the new British Consul in Alicante replacing Russell Thompson who retired last March. British Ambassador Sir Stephen Wright stated that he was delighted to have been able to appoint a person with such wide management experience in the private sector to head up the consulate in Alicante, which he added was a key post in the British consular network due to the high number of British residents and tourists in the region. The new consul, who took up her appointment last week, has responsibilities for British residents in the provinces of Alicante, Castellón, Valencia, Murcia and Albacete where about 300,000 British nationals reside and British visitors to the area under her control number around three million annually.
