Start of Spanish Ski Season Delayed Due To Lack Of Snow

December 6, 2006

The traditional escape to the ski slopes of Spain may be cancelled due to lack of snow. Warm temperatures have meant slopes in the Pyrenees and Andorra are largely without snow. Skiiers are checking the web cams of resorts to see if there was any change, reported the Spanish daily El Mundo. Paloma Garcia-Pacha, director of the Ski Station and Mountain Resorts Association (Atudem), said the perspective for early snow was "doubtful". The situation is going to cost the ski industry in areas of Spain like Aragon up to EUR 13 million, estimated the Herald of Aragon newspaper. Hotels are expecting cancellations of up to 50 percent.
