AVE high speed train arrives in Alicante in 2012

June 01, 2009

The latest date for the arrival of the AVE high speed train in Alicante is 2012, delayed by the placing of the tracks underground on the approach to the city.

The track will rise to the surface 500 metres from the station under the plans which have finally been agreed between the City Hall, Regional Government and Ministry for Development. The work will also place local train lines from the south underground.

The 2012 arrival date however may well see the AVE stop some 500 metres short if the underground work is not complete.

A new local line station is to be built at the airport, and this too will see the construction of a new 300m long tunnel.
