Going green in Alicante Spain

November 16, 2008

Alicante council has announced that over the next 10 years it will create a total of 12 natural parks within its municipal boundaries. The parks will occupy a total of 12 million square metres of land, the owners of which will receive 5.5 million square metres of development land in exchange. Under the recently unveiled PGOU town plan the council has decided to avoid expropriating land and has instead opted to offer prime building land, either residential or industrial, in exchange in order to speed up the process. The new natural parks will be located in El Portell, Orgegia, Lomas del Garbinet, Pino, El Porquet, Serra Grossa, La Vallonga, El Borbunyó, Las Atalayas, El palmeral, Rabarca, and Saladares.
