More medical cover in Torrevieja

Torrevieja hospital is opening six new A&E services to manage the high demand for medical assistance during July and August.

Health centres located in La Mata, El Acequión, Calle Patricio Pérez, San Luis-La Siesta and Rocío del Mar will also be working as A&E centres.

Spokeswoman Claudia Reale advised residents and tourists to visit the nearest centre and not the hospital if they are not suffering serious injury.

According to hospital management, nearly 18,000 people will use the A&E service during July and August.

Sra Reale explained that demand increases up to 200 per cent during the summer.

She said: “We expect to attend 248 people on average each day.

“On the busiest days we estimate nearly 450 people will be attended.”

Dr Medina Álvarez, who has worked in the A&E department of the CentralMiddlesexHospital for many years, has joined Torrevieja’s hospital to manage the hospital’s A&E service.
