Work To Begin On New Murcia Airport

July 05, 2008

Construction begins on the new airport in Murcia, Spain, this week opening up the region to both tourists and property hunters.

The Regional Government of Murcia and Aeromur has announced construction on the new Murcia airport will begin this week.

Due for completion in 2010 and expected to be fully operational by the winter of that year, the first week of works on the airport will see the marking of the site begin.

The budget of €266m is high but given the great need for the airport in the region, it is easy to see why a large amount of money is being spent to build Murcia Airport, which will be in Corvera.

Current statistics for San Javier Airport, also in the Murcia region, show in recent years passenger numbers have been on a steady increase with a 22 per cent growth from 2006 to 2007, taking passenger numbers from 1,646,129 in 2006 to 2,002,949 in 2007.

This increase in the number of people visiting the Murcia region of Spain indicates the ever-growing popularity of the region, both for tourists and property hunters, even given the current economic climate.
