Expats Anxious At Trampolín Hills, Spain

Buyers of properties at Trampolín Hills in Murcia worry as building on the site remains prohibited.

Murcia’s regional government have frozen plans to construct a golf course and 2,575 properties in Campos del Río, Murcia, effectively preventing building work beginning on the Trampolín Hills development.

As Costa Blanca News reported, almost 90 per cent of the properties at the proposed golf resort were sold months ago, despite not having been approved by the Murcia regional government.

The sales campaign started in 2005 when a show home was given away as part of a competition run on Channel 4’s Richard and Judy show, which gave the development much of its legitimacy in the eyes of British investors.

However, the development has since been blacklisted by investors as the company has been prohibited from beginning construction until the regional department for public works reclassifies the rural land chosen as the site.

Public works asked Grupo Trampolín to amend the initial plan, including widening the streets and ensuring that the development has a water supply guaranteed by the River Segura Water Confederation. These alterations should have been approved in a full council meeting and then sent back to the regional department.

However the full council meeting was never held and the plan was returned without full council approval, mainly because the Socialist mayor and another councillor are barred from voting on this issue as they sold properties some years ago for Grupo Trampolín.

On the whole, however, councillors are in favour of the development, as the village of Campos del Río currently has only 2,000 residents and needs a population boost to keep the village alive.

None of this changes the fact that the town hall should never have approved plans for a new development on protected green land, where the future for buyers of offplan properties is likely to remain uncertain for months to come.
