Torremendo urbanisation triples in size in Costa Blanca, Spain

May 12, 2008

A modification to an urbanisation plan in Torremendo was approved at a full council meeting in Orihuela, allowing the promoter to build 315 homes instead of 103. Opposition councillors said they had no legal objection but Green party (Los Verdes) spokesman Monserrate Guillén said it would almost double the town’s population, with resulting problems for the school and health centre, which also covers Entre Naranjos. He noted there were not enough sports facilities, public transport, local police or water supply to support this. Town planning councillor Antonio Rodríguez Barberá countered that the plans would sustain employment in the municipality.
