Costa Blanca region awarded most "Blue Flag" beaches in Spain

The Costa Blanca region of Spain has been awarded a total of 106 Blue Flags this year by the European Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). The Costa Blanca is now top of the league with 46 Blue Flag awards for its beaches, the highest total in Spain! While Alicante Province with 56 flags (including leisure harbours) leads the field ahead of Castellón (26) and Valencia (24). In Alicante, Blue Flag beaches include Les Bovetes, Marineta Cassiana and Les Marines. In Denia, La Grava, L'Arenal and La Granadella picked up the award while Les Rotes lost out. Jávea was awarded with the beaches of El Portet, L'Ampolla and Les Platjetes being selected. Other beaches to get the award were Cala Fustera in Teulada, La Fossa, Cantal Roig and Arenal-Bol in Benissa. In Calpe, La Roda and Cap Blanc took the honours. Beaches in Finestrat, Benidorm, Villajoyosa, Campello, San Juan, El Altet, Elche, Santa Pola and Guardamar del Segura also gained Blue Flag awards. Each year the FEE awards the ensigns to beaches and ports in recognition of their cleanliness, security and the way environmental matters are run.
