August 10, 2007
The number of residents registered on local registers (Padrón) throughout Spain broke the 45 million barrier in January according to a statistics report released this week.
There are currently 4.48 million foreign residents in Spain of whom 1.7 million are non-Spanish EU citizens. The 576,000 Moroccans living in Spain still form the largest expat community, but closing the gap are the Romanians with 524,995 residents followed by British citizens (314,000) and Germans (164,000). Valencia, Andalucía, Cataluña and Madrid have reported the largest increases.
