Growth for San Miguel de Salinas, Alicante, Spain

July 13, 2007

The new controversial Town Plan (PGOU) for San Miguel de Salinas is set to be approved in the coming weeks.

Last week the regional government sent the document back to the town hall with some modifications.

The PGOU will finally be passed once it fulfils Valencia’s requirements.

However according to San Miguel Arcángel residents’ association the town hall has not considered residents’ opinions.

President Manuel Gómez said the local people should be allowed to decide how they want their town to grow.

He also said the town hall had approved a population increase of 100,320 new residents and their proposal to hold a referendum over the PGOU had been denied.

“The town hall has blocked the residents’ participation in an extremely important matter,” he complained.
