BBC Watchdog report on Costa del Sol property problems

May 11, 2006

The BBC consumer affairs programme "Watchdog" (aired on Tuesday 9th May 2006) highlighted the risks of buying Spanish property on the Costa del Sol. The BBC have reported on the problems being experienced by some British house buyers on the Costa del Sol. The widespread corruption in the Malaga planning department has resulted in the arrest of key members of the city council. The allegation is that key members of the council have benefited personally from the granting of planning applications. This has prompted a review of the planning permissions granted to thousands of international home buyers. These buyers had purchased the homes in good faith, with full planning permission. The fear is that these homes will have their permissions retrospectively withdrawn, making the homes effectively illegal. Costa Blanca & Costa Calida homes are unaffected by these investigations, making the area a safer proposition for international buyers.
